This goes for skate and ski helms, as well.
Call me tedious, but what is the idea of having safety gear that isn't properly fitted?
Many times when I see a child wearing a (well, it is mostly bike helmets) helmet they are loose and or unbuckled to the point where they slide way back onto the head. It looks cute, but that sloppy fit can enable something to get caught while riding or during a crash, resulting in their little necks getting twisted instead of absorbing the impact by bouncing or skidding. It's mostly with the "aero-style" cycling helmet that seem to be the most often poorly fitted. Some of the protective qualities are compromised if the helmet cannot protect the entire skull or comes loose during a crash.
I was just wondering if many of you parent types were aware of this.
*Most of you regulars to the Cycling forum probably do fit helmets and replace when necessary, but I've seen some family groups out on their bikes and there are some "sloppy" helmet wearing kids with you.
