There is no longer a military draft. Back in the 40's, during WWII, any male over the age of 18 could be drafted, and thus required to enter the military.
The draft was eliminated near the end of the Vietnam War. The military services are now completely voluntary, which means that every individual can choose if they want to enter the service or not.
