why don't Airlines in the United States embrace "ab initio" flight training?

I have an a research paper on "Airlines in the United States have yet to embrace ab initio flight training. Why do you think this is? Do you think that the U.S. could learn from the ab initio training example to solve the long-term problems of a pilot shortage?

I would love to hear opinions for my research.

There is no long term pilot shortage, there are still guys on the street from major US carriers as we speak. Therefore, there's no reason for the airlines to pay for the training when the prospective new hires will do it.
