Why don’t more people use alternative energy sources? ?

I know that some people think that we should focus on increasing energy efficiency and energy conservation rather then alternative energy sources. Why? Also, what is the difference between energy efficiency and energy conservation?

Largely I think it's because energy efficiency is something that anyone can do in the short term while we work on making alternative energy affordable and accessible. I don't think anyone who is seriously in the green industry believes that energy efficiency is in lieu of energy alternatives. It's a two-fold approach. We have to create energy alternatives, but we still need to use that energy efficiently.
There's not really much of a difference between energy efficiency and energy conservation. Efficiency is the means by which we use less (conserve) energy.

well you see, no combination of alternative energy sources will allow us to continue consuming the way we do, we need to focus in efficiency and continue developing alternative energy sources.

Energy efficiency is a form of energy conservation. If you use efficient forms, you conserve using excess energy. Many would like to switch to alternative, more environmentally green energy sources, but as of yet, they're still often more expensive. I have a house PERFECT for solar, but to convert, I'd have to invest at least $8000. I just don't have that right now, so I do my best with solar and thermal drapes, wood pellet stoves and using a rain barrel for my garden (since saving water is also very important, since processing water uses various types of energy sources). Anyone who cares does the best they can. We can be thankful that Obama is interested in alternative sources and not more drilling.
