Why doesnt verizon let you talk and be on mobile web at the same time?

I know its the cdma technology, but why don't they get rid of that and get technology that let's you talk and web at the same time. I have a smartphone and sometimes its annoying not being able to do those simultaneasly. This question was sparked from the new iPhone to Verizon announcement today, and I won't get the iPhone on verizon (currently I have android on verizon) until get comes out on 4g on verizon.
