why doesnt toyota get better fuel mileage?

watching nascar,they dont use a 4 cyl or a v6,and there v8 gets lousy mileage on the track as well,hmm if you cant tell im bored.
ever play with the turtle robot?god that thing was faulty.code was full of bugs.
