Why doesnt my ZTE Boost mobile phone mouth piece work?

I went to the store one day to buy a new phone and i got the boost ZTE and the phones mouth piece wasnt working, it sounded as if i was very far away or something. So i went to the store to get another one but unfortunatly it happened again. They told me to update it but it still dlesmt work... help me please.
