Why doesnt my palm pre play a ringing noise when I call someone?

I have a Pre on Sprint. When I dial out without using the speaker or bluetooth, it doesn't make a ringing noise until someone picks up. After that I hear the other person. On speaker I hear the ring. I know there used to be an issue about plugging in headphones but that was resolved. Any suggestions?
