Why doesn't my computer recognize any of the functions of my phone over bluetooth?

I have two computers, a laptop running Windows 7 Professional x64 with a Broadcom internal Bluetooth adapter, and a desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 that I've tried using a generic Bluetooth adapter and an AZIO Bluetooth adapter. The AZIO for sure supports BT v2.1+EDR, not sure about the other.

My laptop can pair with my HTC Evo 4G and recognize a bunch of functions. I can use my phone as a headset, or use my laptop speakers for the phone's media player, or transfer files, or set up a PAN, or use my phone's camera as a webcam. I can manage all these functions from within Devices and Printers in such a way that it sure looks like it's all built-in Windows functionality.

On my desktop, with either adapter, I can pair with my phone, but Windows doesn't recognize any functions or services. It doesn't even try to install a driver (I recall it did install drivers on my laptop). It's there, and says it's connected, but thinks it can't do anything. I've tried both adapters and tried using the built-in Windows interface and the Toshiba Bluetooth software that comes with the AZIO. I've also tried the more recent version from AZIO's website.

Is it possible neither of these adapters support any phone profiles? I recall being able to use my old phone (Samsung Instinct S30) as a headset and transfer files on the same computer with the old generic adapter. Or is it something to do with Android? I've tried looking for Bluetooth drivers for my phone, tried forcing the Broadcom drivers to install, etc., but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any idea?
