Why doesn't Chrysler offer a diesel engine option for the North American...

one word. "Emissions" Jeep offers a diesel engine in all but 3 states and it barely passes emissions. that engine is also rather large and would not fit in a minivan. The engine they use in europe is much smaller but will in no way shape or form pass emissions standards in the US
 
The same reason nobody else does. Nobody in the US wants a diesel. Vehicles with a diesel option cost several thousand more upfront. Diesel costs more. Not every gas station sells diesel.
 
Americans are diesel illiterate! They can't even start a gasoline engine right, if you don't believe that study the root cause of the problems RX models have in the US.
Now I am a US citizen, it is just that I am being honest. Americans are just not "Diesel Friendly"! It takes more then a chewing gum mentality to start one up, and most US drivers are just overgrown teenagers.
