My parents' cat (named Oreo) doesn't do anything except sleep all day, and upon waking up she'll find someone and whine until we let her out. She stays out all day and come back at her convenience. When she comes back in she has all these little leaves stuck to her fur, sometimes poop too.
She was severely injured a few years ago--something broke in her back leg and they did surgery. She had to be in a cage for like a whole month while she healed, so she wouldn't try jumping or putting any stress on it. I got the impression that the vet offered putting her to sleep instead of the surgery.
So now that cat rules their house. Everything they do is for her convenience. They got a kitten a while back and had to give it away--Oreo wanted to kill it, I swear. Had to keep the kitten closed in a bedroom with kittey litter and a towel stuffed under the door. Glad the kitten has a better home.
They have one more cat (Puffy) who is normal. Oreo gets along with her *most* of the time.
Read through that and realized I sound kind of harsh. I love cats, I'm definately a cat person. I just don't understand this one...she's either a sleeping rock, or she's whining at me....and it really bothered me when she tried to murder that kitten. At least that's what it seemed like. Definately more than "stay away from me" hissing. More like "I am going to tear you to shreds."
