why does this book have a strange ending?

ONLY ANSWER IF YOU'VE ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK:
LETTERS FROM THE INSIDE By: JOHN MARSDEN

i've just finished the book letters from the inside and it has a strange ending it ends with Tracey writing, but what happened to mandy? Is there another part of the book i can read? are there any clues?
