Why does the wind blow from place to place in certain directions?

Wind is caused by by changes in pressure. When this difference exists the air is accellerated from high to low pressure sort of like a balloon which contains gas at a higher pressure than the atmosphere outside of it, if you let go of the top of the balloon the air releases at speed. The direction of wind is controlled by the earths rotation.
