Why does the media promote the impossible(usually)?

What's the point of making people feel bad- is that the point? Being bombarded with images of people with "perfect"ly fake skin, "perfect" hair, the "ideal" figure, and basically everything else to do with the unachievable.
Is it JUST for the money? Do they not care about what they are portraying in that sense?
