Why does the commandment about obeying parents say, "obey / honor / respect

your mother and father"? 1. it obviously applies only to people under 18
2. people under 18 would not read it, especially if they are illiterate (many were at the time it was dictated)
3. only adults would read it, but they don't need instructions at that age for moral guidance
4. adults' parents at that time were probably dead

so why doesn't it say, "tell your children to obey you"? it would kill two birds with one stone, by informing both child and adult. Is god stupid or something?
