Why does the battery on the Nexus S finish so quickly?

I have a Nexus S and Ive always wondered why does the battery finish so quickly?
It's really annoying and i have to charge it a lot. If I don't use it. Wastes at least 10% charge.

Can anyone please give me a good reason for this?
