First of all I dont wanna be in college and I never did, its mainly my family and society that brainwashed me into thinking that a degree makes man. So I decided to apply to college after I got out the military, I HATE IT so much.
I am a sophomore now and the only reason I got this far is because my University accepts D's as a pass. I have alot of B's and C's as well. I studied my heart out for English 1020 and still got a B, while my roommates partied every night and got an A+. School was just never for me and I know I should drop out instead of wasting money. I already borrowed $17,000 from Student Loan and my major is still undecided. My GPA is 1.66 and I am doing bad.
So is college really worth it for someone like me who is somewhat dyslexic and more hands on? I am really good when it comes to things that require movement and energy. I did well in the military because my MOS required me to always be on the move. Now that I have to sit and study for hours I feel like I am going insane. I could already see the future if I stay in college: I would be forced to choose a major just so I can make money and pay back the student loan, my GPA might be so low that I mightn't even get a job or graduate, if I get a job i would hate it because most degree holders are paper pushers and managers, I would be $40,000 in debt, and by the time I graduate most employers might want a masters so I would be force to go back to school
So as you can see, I am screwed either way. I should have just stayed in the Army and be debt free doing the things I love. Or I could have been a cop or firefighter. But society has scared me to to the point where I think a degree will make me a human
So the questions of the day is
1) Does a degree make a man and are people without degrees automatically stupid?
2) Should someone who hates college drop out or should he/she suck it up so they can get a job working for a company; thus making that company richer?
3) Would the world be a better place if each individual did what they loved doing and using their talent?; or are we doing the correct thing by telling everyone they must go to college and get the same degree that Tom Dick and Harry has?
I personally think people should do what makes them happy. My mom tells me I must get a degree, but does she just say that so she can show me off? Or does she really care about what makes me happy? What if all actors and athletes never used their talent and followed the trend of getting a degree and working for a company.......do you think they would be happy? I relive they are happier right now without a degree, at least they are doing what they love and get paid for it. I cant even begin to tell you how many people have a degree and dont even know why they got it. Some of them actually wish they could go back in time and use the $40,000 they borrowed to start a company. Now they have to go work for a company, how sad is that?
