Why does RockStar change a story of a game and release it again?

I mean the original is GTA 4. Other companies would make GTA 5, but RockStar?
Thay made GTA Lost & Damned and then Liberty city stories?
I mean its the same game just the story is different... And they sell it on at a price of a completely new game?
And they're doing it with Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare?
