I have a Yamaha 535 shaft driven bike that "whines" quit a lot when deccelarating, in any gear althought less in 4th gear and almost none in 5th gear.
It stops as soon as I pull the clutch in so I guess it comes from transmission...As my bike is a 94 model, it could be a worn bearing but it would not be the case on yours...
I have heard cars doing exactly the same noise and they had no engine/transmission problems, it does not sound like a "bad" noise, just a bit annoying.
Next time I see my mechanic I will ask him.
