why does my sims 2 game keep turning off?

ok, I have the sims 2 double Deluxe and I don't know why it is closing. It turns off the game before getting to which town I want to play. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? I did download things of Sims 2 mods. could that be the problem? I don't think it is because I have gotten many things off there before and it always worked before. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!
