Why does my Sanyo Zio keep saying I am out of memory when I have an 8 gb sd memory card?

I am running out of internal memory on my sanyo zio. I have an 8 gb memory card with almost 6 gb left available on it. My phone is still telling my it is almost out of memory. How do I fix this?? I have formatted the memory card to the phone. Thanks!
 
apps dont save to the sd card so if you are trying to download apps you may be out of internal phone space.
