why does my samsung genio qwerty play no sound?

i got a samsung genio qwerty at christmas and recently its been playing no sound outloud or when i call someone it doesnt let me hear the other person speak unless its on loud speaker.I tried to turn on silent and then turn it off and it still doesn't work please help. Jessica x
