Why does my media player say"no disc" when my homemade cd is in there?

Im trying to rip the songs to my media player, but it only says "no disc', when it is in there.If it needs updates please tell me exactly where to find them and which ones.

Have you tried the disc on another computer? Did you burn it using that computer?

(I'm assuming that other discs read and write fine on that machine.)

What kind of disc is it? Are you sure that your drive is able to read such discs?
