why does my male 4 yr old rescue dog urinate on my bed and rugs when I go away...

...for several days and he is left? He pees in our bed and on our rugs when I go away and is left in my husband's care. Otherwise he is perfect when I am at home. What can I do to stop this? My husband is at his wits end and I have another trip coming up in a week. He is a very docile dog.
