Why does my Jeep Cherokee die while driving?

For the past few months my 1995 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 has been acting up every so often. While driving it acts like it died, but yet doesn't die. When this happens the tachometer drops to 0 instantly, but then goes back up and everything is normal. It has done this at 60 mph and at 30 mph, and various other speeds in between. The thing is it might go a few weeks in between doing it. Though that might have to do with the fact I don't drive it that often. Then tonight my girlfriend was driving it and she said it actually died fully, but then it did start back up and she got it home. It has had a tuneup about 10000 miles ago. Any help would be appreciated.
