I've had my iMac for almost two years and this is the first time this has happened to me. The only application left running when I attempt to shut it down is the Finder (I started making sure I quit all apps before shutting off, thinking that was the problem). All the icons and the desktop stuff disappears like its supposed to as it starts to shut down, but then it stops leaving the background picture. And it will stay like that until I hold the power button, forcing it shut off. I've just been putting it to sleep the past week because I don't want to keep forcing it to shut off, but I know never shutting down isn't good either. Does anyone have any ideas? I could really use some help.
