your water pump is half shot maybe. Your coolant level right up? Also cover your radiator if you had too. Ummm... i don't know what else to say.

Possibly your switch or wiring somewhere on your defroster.

My Heater has been blowing cold air ever since i bought this car. It is a 1996 Chevy Lumina 3.1L V6. I replaced the head gaskets and the intake manifold gasket because there was antifreeze and water in oil. I then Flushed out radiator and Heater Core Hoses on Firewall. The temperature gauge in the car acts a little funny at times it seems like the engine gets hot too fast then I guess the thermostat kicks in and the temp goes way down then usually fluctuates around the center. Basically the gauge gets to normal degrees about 6 times faster than any other car. The only time it blows warm air at all is if I am on the highway going 70 mph. If I start it and let it sit idling for even a half an hour, it still blows cold. I really need heat this time a year in Indiana. Also, I checked my fuse on my back window Defroster and it is good. Why doesnt it work?

It sounds to me like a combination of a goofy thermostat and a weak water pump.

The defroster could be a few things. Wiring harness, bad heating element, bad switch. If you or a friend have a multimeter, see if power is getting to the defroster. If it is, the heating element (those lines on the window) is bad. If it's not, it's electrical.

I'd bet replacing the thermostat would correct both the no heat and the engine overheating issues.

Well my friend I believe that you have a thermostat problem. As far as the rear defrost, that is a common problem with the Lumina, you may have to chalk that one up as a mild inconvienence
