Why does my dog lick the lounge chair?

Seriously! When ever my nearly 3 year old labradoodle jumps on the couch (don't worry, she's allowed to) she will start licking the arm rest or the seat like crazy. And not just one lick, over and over and over until she gets tired or falls asleep.
I don't want to know how to stop it, I just want to know why she does it.

Our couch is a textured synthetic leather which we've had for as long as I can remember...

She likes the smell or taste or texture of it.

Dogs sometimes develop habits like that which don't make much sense to us, but it's really no different than a baby sucking its thumb ... it's just something the dog has discovered that helps it relax.

Maybe someone dropped a slice of pizza on that spot years ago?

Sounds like she may be a little OCD or may do it out of boredom. When she starts to do it, try to distract her with a toy or other game.

try washing your greasy hands after you eat. and quit wiping them on them furniture
