In the computer game Civilization II, if any particular city has 3 or more population, AND more than half of the citizens are happy with none unhappy, a "We love the _______'s Day" will happen. In all governments except Democracy and Republic, when cities are celebrating _______'s Day, extra resources are given. However, when the player has a Democracy or Republic, any city celebrating Consul's or President's day are supposed to gain a population per turn, not including food or lack of food. So, even if I'm losing food, I should still grow one population per turn (unless my city ran out of food, then it would gain one and lose one for a net change of 0).
President's and Consul's day has worked for me before, on this same computer, with this same copy of Civ II, but it's not working now. I've met all the requirements for the population boost - Democracy, cities with 3 or more population, more than half of the citizens of these cities are happy and none are unhappy. However, I'm not gaining population. Each of these cities either have aqueducts or are below 8 population. I get the message saying which cities are celebrating, but no matter what I do none of them gain population each turn.
Anybody have any idea what's going on with my game? I've played it on King, Prince, Warlord, and Chieftain now, but no cities celebrating Day experience extra growth under Democracy or Republic, even if they have room to grow. Again, it's worked in games past but now it somehow doesn't. Thanks for your help.
