Why does my chihuahua make this gagging sound?

i have a white long-haired chi and he sometimes just randomly starts gagging; it last for like 30secs. When it happens to him i usually push up on his stomach and that usually helps him in like 10 secs.
Is their something wrong with is lungs??? What could possibly be wrong?
i hope it is nothing but i am gunna take him to the vet next week. thanks everyone for answering.

Your chi might have a lung problem like my dog. I would get this checked out quickly. If you don't check him out soon, he could get lung cancer.

Has he been tested for heartworms? Have you taken him to the vet? It might be a collapsing trachea.

Chihuahua's usually have breathing problems - they're prone to it. So I would take him to the vet. BUT be prepared to hear from your vet that something is lodged near his trachea or has asthma etc.

Noo my pomchie does the same thing for 30 seconds to, we went to the doctors to and they said it's a type of reverse sneeze or something, don't worry my puppy does the same thing haha!

Gagging, wheezing, etc. Are usually signs of kennel cough. If your dog has played with other dogs recently or been in a kennel then he may have gotten it. Since you're not taking him to the vet until next week, try this (almost free). Instead of giving your pup water, give him peppermint tea with 3 tbs of honey for a couple of days. If it clears up, no need to go to the vet. If not, see a vet for saftey.
