my car is an older (1994) Dodge Intrepid and it squeals. the sound seems to be coming from the front tires, and the squealing stops when I apply the brakes - even just barely. I was told this was brake pads that needed to be replaced. Is that the only option, or is there a less expensive remedy? (fyi: I'll have to look up every car related word used, so please tell it to me like I'm a 2 year old)
