Why does my car squeal when i turn on the A/C?

My car makes a loud squeal whenever i first crank it up and it makes a squeal also whenever i turn on the A/C. I have a 1996 Honda Accord, can anyone with knowledge of cars and mechanics tell me what could possibly be the problem?
