Driving 55-60 on the freeway can help a lot, frequent lane changes reduce mileage. Strangely using acetone in the gasoline will help mileage, all the disclaimers about it either being harmful for the car or not increasing mileage are wrong. My car is rated 28/30 mpg, I get 38 using acetone, it has to be pure and the mixture must be right, it usually takes a couple tanks with it for it to really get better, I use to struggle to get 28 on the freeway. Also tune up are good, check tire pressure, going over recommended but under maximum is a good was to improve mileage. Replacing spark plugs, air filters and changing to synthetic oil with 5w-20 or 5w-30 will help.

get 15 MPG??!!!? this really sucks!
i'm a new driver.
i'm 17 so i got this car because it was at a good price and plus i thought i would be gettting good gas mileage but i did the math and i only get about 15 mpg.

i'm a good driver, like i dont step on the gas pedal every time i take off.

ugh this is frustrating.

anyone got any tips as on what i can do to go the 22mpg its suppose to be getting in city driving??

thank you!

You should be getting around 24 to 27 with this car,you may need to do a tune up or replace/have them tested...02 sensors.

Check the oxygen sensor, air filter, spark plugs/wires, and the tire pressure. How are you calculating your gas mileage? The correct way is as follows:

Fill Up Tank--Note car mileage and amount of gallons bought.
Drive car normally- try to do mix of city and highway
Fill up tank again-- note car mileage and amount of gallons bought.

2nd mileage note-1st mileage note=-miles
difference between 2 sets of amount of gas bought.

Miles/gallons of gas= average.

1. Make sure your air filter is clean, have good plugs and wires, proper tire pressure, and if you have a CEL fix it.
2. Take out all the extra junk in your car. More weight = less mileage.
3. Drive smooth. This comes with experience. The driver can make a difference of several mpg. Your parents can probably get 2-3 mpg better than you in the same car and same driving because they have more experience driving.

The EPA mileage ratings are a 1 size fits all type of thing too. If you drive in NYC with stop and go traffic your mileage will be lower than city driving in some town in Kansas with like 50 people.
