are you in range of an AT&T cell tower?
I assume you would be

But when traveling in other countries, I find my network displayed as another as I move between cell areas
Because of Partner company deals

Just checked the net
AT&T owns Cingular

So you are with AT&T just under a Partner company
Just check your charge rates are the same

I have been trying to setup alerts within yahoo, deleting my old settings and putting in the phone number and carrier of AT&T. It will even say completed but when I go back and it shows the current settings, it claims cingular wireless. Thoughts?

The carrier name is frequently programmed into the SIM card. My wife has T-Mobile, and when she would fire up most phones, the device would say "T-Mobile" on the screen. When she put her sim card into her new myTouch 3g a couple of weeks ago, it said "Vstream" on the screen. (Voicestream was the name of the company before they merged with T-Mobile).

So that information might be coming off the SIM. AT&T used to be Cingular.
