Why does my 450D disconnect in the middle of photo transfer?

I have a 450D and I'm using a 4GB Kingston SDHC card. I do not have a SDHC card reader.

When I transfer my photos with the wire, my camera disconnects halfway. Is there a problem with the camera's software? I've tried changing wires to no avail.
