I know the fuel pump works and have replaced the fuel filter, but truck will drive for a little bit and then blow white smoke and die out. Starts right back up and then after awhile does it again.

check your injectors to verify that ain't the problem.that is not a head gasket problem. if it was you wont be able to start it back up right after it dies.take it to a shop and have Teamm verify that your injectors are keeping the fuel pressure where it needs to be

White smoke in a DIESEL means too rich a fuel mixture, or a turbo problem. If the turbo seems to be OK, it's probably a bad injector or the computer is getting the mixture wrong. (Bad sensor, etc.) Get it put on the computer at a reputable diesel shop and they should be able to narrow it down pretty quickly.
