why does my 1992 dodge caravan turn off while I'm driving and the oil light turns on?

while i was driving the vann all of asuddent turned off and locked the stering wheel and the oil light turned on
I've checked the oil and its fine but it over heats really fast and while i run it i starts to make anoice lik its going to die out so if any one know whats up then let me know greatly appreciated
