Why does he make such an effort for me to come hang out, and then, act distant?

This guy friend I have. We actually first met when he asked me out, but I wanted to just be friends only and he seemed fine with it. He will seem to get angry if I don't come out, but when I do, he will talk to me then walk away. Then come back, talk, and then go away again. What's the deal?
