"The Gunslinger"is one of my favorites. Sure it's not as good as "The Drawing of the Three", but it's still great. I remember reading the Gunslinger and feeling like I'm in a dream the whole time. Remember when Roland picks up Jake at the Way Station and then has to climb down a hole to remove the Jaw of the corpse. Wasn't that Frightening. Not to mention what later happens to Jake. Yikes.
