why does apple always update the ipod nano and not the standard ipod?

i mean they dont even have color options with the big ipod. and i wish they did lol i dont like the nanos cuz they are too small for me. the big ones fit better in my hand lol but now the nanos can shoot video and have even more color choices. so i was just wondering.
