I'm not trying to start a culture war here my BF is 1/2 Chinese...I just find it weird that any pork I order from our beloved Chinese Restaurant smells like "Wet Dog" and it looks funny also...not like any pork I've ever eaten anywhere else (except some Chinese Restaurants) and I myself have prepared many different pork dishes. We've ordered it prepared many different ways...ribs, boneless ribs, pork fried rice, pork w/broccoli, roast pork w/ veg, roast pork w/garlic sauce (yes you can smell it over the garlic) even pork egg roll and the steamed/fried dumplings.
I did a Google search and read other similar questions and besides being berated by the Asian Community (I mean no disrespect with this question) about the question being asked there wasn't an answer. AND YES in the Asian Culture, Dog and Cat are served and eaten still to this day it's considered a delicacy. Now before someone says it would be too expensive to serve dog or cat that's not true I see ads for free dog/cats in my local paper and online on a daily basis. So price isn't a factor in this.
My BF and our friends also have commented that the pork has a strong "Wet Dog" smell.
Hoping someone can answer this mystery ... Thank you in advance.
I do not order the pork any more... I stick to shrimp dishes.
