Why does america waste so much on pro sports?

I'm trying to come up with legit info that I can use to prove way too much cash is used in sports, and i want to show how this money could be used alternatively for a more relevant purpose(you know maybe for the countless numberof starving, homeless familes and children, third world countries). I am trying to find a website for source of info that will tell aproximatety how much cash america mindlessly induldges on pro sports. If you think this is an important issue could you please share you opinion and include any links that could help prove my theory?

Well, it's either that or shoes and makeup, and since I'm a guy who isn't that into clothes, fingernails, or crash diets, I choose sports. When I'm not watching soaps and Oprah, that is.
