Why does a guy spend time chatting with somebody on IM regularly, as in everyday?

I've met this guy a few months ago. Since then, we have been talking through IM before he leaves for school and when he arrives from school. And this happens everyday for three months now. He is Asian studying in the US and I am here in the Philippines. I am confused. I don't want to think that he is just using me so he would not feel alone and lonely in the US.

I don't know what the real score is. I want to know the reasons why there are guys who spend time talking to a girl as regular as this. But I don't also want to ask him because I grew up in a very conservative family. Please help!
 
Well, maybe because he just wants someone to talk with.

I know that you were expecting me to say that he likes you....Well, NO this doesn't mean likes you!
