Why does a Ford Expedition appear to have 2 oil filters?

Now, I know it does not actually have to oil filters,but recently I was at red light and saw one of these trucks with a missing driver side front fender,it appeared as though there was an oil filter right behind the bumper but I am fairly sure I am mistaken what could this be? Part of the Automatic 4wd system maybe?
