Why do you think we are being forced to go to digital television on February 17, 2009?

This is an unusual date. I mean, why didn't the government choose a more convenient date like March 1, 2009?

I am curious to see what the public thinks about this. This is more or less a survey to gather what the American public has brewing in their minds as to why we are:

1) Being forced to go to digital television

2) Why this particular date

All opinions are welcome. I just want to see what you are thinking.

So they can free up bandwidth on analog chanels

They date is prolly just what they picked out of the air!

Haha I made a joke!

1) The gov't wants to free up the old UHF and VHF frequencies and sell them to the cellular operators to enable 4G and UWB services.
2) No particular reason, the gov't has been trying to get DTV mandated since the late 1990's but it keeps getting postponed.

I have no idea why, but I'm sure it will pay off for the Govt, or else they wouldn't do it.

It makes me pretty mad... I can't afford cable, so I just use an old-school antenna to get my 3 channels or so... but soon I won't have even those!

The date seems quite random too. The Govt makes no sense...

i have no idea i think because some company is closing that day or somethin they probably did just pick a datee off the top of their head.
but they doin that because the gov. is goin broke so they tryin to get any little money they can....i feel another depression comin up
