Why do you think Lincoln's greatest impact was preserving the Union?

this is NOT homework!. It's a contest for law day & I got great ideas earlier, just looking for help with the last paragraph. This is the 4th & 5th paragraphs-the whole thing doesn't fit

Without Lincoln we could be two separate countries today. He made great decisions and saved the country. If the Confederate States had successfully seceded from the union and became a separate nation within the United States, USA would not be indivisible. The United States turned from a broken Federation of States into a single country because Lincoln got the preferential trade agreements that the South had negotiated with Europe. He is the only President in history that had ever exerted so much executive authority, but he did so not for personal power but in order to preserve the Union.

I think he was the best President to make an impact in history because of the way he used his leadership during the war and because of the influence of that leadership on the ethical and political character of the nation. Lincoln fought a war to keep government in control, and if it weren’t for him the United States wouldn’t be here today.
