I recently met an absolutely gigantic woman who is apparently a professional shot-putter and female weight-lifter. She weighs over 300lbs and is 6'1" inches tall. Her upper arms were quite massive, and her legs looked like trunks.
All the same, it turned out that the most weight she had ever bench-pressed without a device known as a "bench-shirt" was only 395lbs.
This is among the most that any female has ever bench-pressed "unshirted" in recorded history, but all the same, it's 30lbs less than my own personal bench-press record.
I weigh about 100lbs less than her, and I'm not an athlete. I'm just a lawyer who has done strength-training for a while.
A man who was as big as this woman would probably be benching over 500lbs. She is enormous!
But all the same, what is it about female physical biology that seems to cripple their ability to bench-press large amounts of weight?
Even professional female weightlifters struggle to bench anywhere near what a dedicated amateur male can end up benching.
