Why do we need art programs in school (topic for paper)?

My final for my english class is an argument paper. I'm arguing that we need to keep art programs in schools and that they should be funded.

My points are:
1) Art courses help children to have more self-esteem

2) We want children to be artists later in life (i.e. architects, designers) but why don't want them to develop these skills when they are young.

My first draft of this paper didn't get a very good grade. So I would appreciate suggestions about how to argue this. And if you can give me websites to go to that would be much appreciated, I need to cite all my sources. Thank you!

For the purpose of well-roundedness. Just like we make kids who aren't good at math do math, anyway. It's just to test their grounds and, if they're good at it, help them succeed.

Edit: Look up liberal arts schools. Read their "About Us" pages, or their intention pages. They have the same idea about maintaining the fine arts in even higher education.
