Why do we continue to promote the Oswald and James Ray Conspiracy Theories?

A Texas grand jury has found Lyndon Johnson as well as members of American intelligence agencies culpable in the murder of JFK. In 1999, J Edgar Hoover and former CIA Director Richard Helms were found guilty by a Memphis jury in the murder of MLK, and James Earl Ray was exonerated. So my question is: Why do we continue to go about our business like there is no debate over who killed these men, continue to teach in school that there is no doubt the culprits are Lee Harvey Oswald and James Earl Ray? Does society have to continue these lies so as not to undermine the public's confidence in the federal government? (My professor of 'american government and politics' has never even heard of these subsequent trials, wtf is with that?)
