Why do we argue about religion?

The first thing you notice when you study the different religions is just how much they have in common. All religions acknowledge that humankind's present state is unsatisfactory. All believe that a change of attitude and behaviour is needed if the human situation is to improve. All teach an ethics that include love, kindness, patience, generosity and social responsibility and all accept the existence of some form of Absolute. They use different languages, different names and different symbols to describe and explain those things.
Is arguing about the same ethics intolerant behaviour? Do we need to meet to understand each other better? Does the church need to open up?
I am looking forward to your answers... this question is in my mind for a long time...I am Buddhist and respect different religions and I am not willing to argue about who is wrong and who is right.
Thanks to Ven.S.Dhammika, a monk, for make my think about this subject.

you're not about to convince anyone all religions basically teach the same things. they don't. all religions differ, and no religion is correct.
